Avrielle Aniko's Guide to Dildos

Dildos can be pretty daunting for someone who has never bought or used one before. Quite often dildos are seen to be larger and almost silly-looking next to the sleek and sexy vibrators, but this is not always the case and some women find that a dildo satisfies their needs far better than a vibrating sex toy.
With dildos of all different shapes and sizes, there is very likely to be the perfect dildo waiting for you out there. So let’s take a look at them...

Realistic-Feel Dildos
CyberSkin, Softskin, Vixskin and UR3, are just some of the brand names for what are all ‘realistic-feel’ sex toy material. They may not feel so real when they flop about in your hand, but they can feel very real when inside you. These dildos become firmer as they fill you up, making them the closest thing to the real deal available on the market!

You can make it feel even more ultra-realistic by running it under a warm tap before use to bring up to body temperature. (Make sure that the water you use is not too hot as it may cause damage your toy.)

Realistic-Feel material is safe to use with condoms, but should only be used with a water-based lubricant. I strongly recommend investing in Fleshlight Renewer Powder or simply some Corn Starch, which can be picked up from your local supermarket, to keep your realistic-feel dildo in tip-top condition.

If you plan to use your realistic-feel dildo for anal, then it is a good idea to cover it with a condom, as this material is porous and can make it very difficult to clean properly. The swell feeling as it is inserted will still feel great and realistic, even with a condom over it.

Realistic Dildos

Aside from Realistic-Feel dildos, Realistic Dildos are crafted to look like the real thing. Often added with realistic colours and moulded in realistic shapes, these are the next best thing to a real penis. Many feel rather life-like too, most commonly made from rubber, silicone or realistic-feel (see above).

Realistic dildos can be great for solo use when a man is not around, or for using with your partner to simulate a threesome!

Glass Dildos
Beautifully crafted and yet easy on your bank account, glass dildos are very appealing. Made of specially toughened glass, they will not break as easily as one might expect. They hold heat and can be chilled, making them great for temperature play.

Glass dildos are often slim in girth and are shaped or textured to bring fantastic sensations that you can't get from other toys.

Ceramic Dildos

Ceramic is a type of clay that has been heat-hardened to make them strong. Dildos made from ceramic have a smooth and sleek glazed coating to protect it and make it stronger. You should inspect your ceramic dildo regularly for any chips or cracks in the coating, and should not be used if there is any damage to it.

The great thing about ceramic is that is holds temperature for longer than glass, making them great for someone who enjoys temperature play. However, they are a little bit harder to look after.

Metal Dildos

Metal is a great conductor of heat – even better than glass or ceramic – and are brilliant for temperature play. They are often more pricey, but feel rather luxurious. Metal dildos are pretty weighty which can really add to pleasure for some women when used internally.

Double-Ended Dildos

It is a common misconception that double-ended dildos are only for female on female pleasure. In fact there are a number of double ended dildos (sometimes known as ‘double dongs’) that are designed for women to use on their own, with one end for inserting in the vagina, and the other end for inserting in the anus for double penetrating pleasure. Or you could even use one end inside the vagina or anus, while using the other end for rubbing up against the clitoris, which can be very pleasurable.

Of course, there are plenty that are designed primarily for female couples. Double-ended dildos come in many different shapes, sizes and lengths, meaning you can find the perfect type for you (and your partner). They are also very flexible, meaning you can bend and twist them to your favourite positions.

Inflatable Dildos
Yeah, ok, these might sound scary, but inflating dildos can produce a full and stretched feeling that fits to your own natural shape which can’t be achieved with most other dildos.

Most often made from a soft but strong latex or rubber, these are used by inserting in the vagina or anus and then filling with air using the attached hand pump, to expand it to your satisfaction.

It is important for beginners to start slowly and gradually, increasing the inflation size over time and several uses. Inflating a lot in one go may not only be uncomfortable, but can cause ruptures or tears if not used with care and patience.

Strap-On Dildos
There are two different types of strap-on dildos:

Harness Dildos
There are two different types of strap-on harnesses/harness compatible dildos. The first type have an O-Ring which are used for fitting O-ring compatible dildos. O-Ring compatible dildos are usually recognised by their wide, flat bases and the O-Ring is the most universal method of dildo attachment.

The second type are Vac-U-Lock harnesses that Vac-U-Lock compatible dildos attach to. The Vac-U-Lock system is unique only to the sex toy brand Doc Johnson, and only Doc Johnson provide the Vac-U-Lock compatible dildos. But there is still a reasonable selection of compatible dildos to choose from.

All harness compatible dildos can be used with or without the harness, making them a great option for you to choose how to use your favourite compatible dildo, or you could have a selection of compatible dildos to swap and change them from the harness as you please.

Strap-On Dildos
These are dildos that have a harness already attached to them. But unlike harness dildos, the dildo cannot be removed from the harness.

That concludes my Beginners Guide to Dildos. Stay sexy folks. xx
